About Mandy
I have a B.A. in Music and an M.M. in Music Education and over a decade of experience as a professional classical musician and music educator. Teaching music to students is my passion, and nothing makes me happier than seeing the look on a student's face after a successful lesson.
I enjoy changing lives and making a difference in the world. No matter what happens, at the end of the day, I am content if I made someone smile or put out good energy in the world with what I do!
I started teaching during my undergrad career, actually as a favor to a family friend! Their son wanted cello lessons. I quickly realized that I loved it, and the rest is history!

First, I like to get to know the student personally by connecting with them. What's your favorite color, your favorite subject in school, or your greatest fear? It's impossible to make a musical connection without a personal connection first!
Then, we talk about their goals. How do they see themselves in 3 months, 6 months, a year?
Next, we jump right in making those goals happen!
I've worked with all kinds of students, from beginners to advanced, and from ages 4-75.
Make sure you connect with your teacher and like them! A fancy resume isn't everything.
My student told me that at her school, they asked everyone to write down what their dreams are. She wrote down that her dream is to get better at the cello. After that, she practiced really hard every single day for the rest of the week and at her next lesson, she was like a different person! The pride and joy on her face were incomparable. I almost cried! I was so proud of her for not only dreaming to get better at the cello but for working hard to actually make it come true, all on her own. What an amazing moment!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
1. How serious am I about learning this instrument? How much time during the week outside of the lessons am I willing to put into practicing? (Same goes for children! How much during the week will they be willing to practice? Will you be able to assist them as needed with practicing?)
2. How long do I want to take lessons? (I really prefer to take on long-term students rather than short-term students, personally.)
3. What is my learning style, and what kind of teacher do I like best? (This is super important, because not every music teacher teaches the same way! Are you someone who is motivated by a strict teacher, or a laid-back teacher, etc.?)
