About Emily

I am a recent Georgetown graduate looking to help students prepare for returning to school in the fall and college prep! I majored in Classics with minors in Government and Anthropology, and I have taken coursework across a variety of fields. My strongest areas are in Latin, ancient Greek, social studies/history, and English literature/writing/grammar. I also am able to tutor in math or sciences, and should you need help at the introductory level in Spanish or Italian, I have taken coursework in both of those languages as well.

Coming from a Classics educational background, I understand that sometimes the most different thing to communicate to students is why learning a particular subject is important. I hope that my tutoring provides value to their lives and helps them appreciate the subject matter in itself.

I began tutoring in eighth grade, and I fell in love with it ever since then. Working with students reminds me of the value of education, and allows me to see all of the fun and interesting developments that those younger than me can provide to the world.

I love teaching and working with students of various ages, as each age range allows me to provide a number of different resources and develop different activities. My work style is encouraging and disciplined so that we can ensure your student is able to master the appropriate materials.

I began tutoring as early as eighth grade, when I would meet with younger students struggling with arithmetic in elementary school math. I continued tutoring throughout high school and college at a variety of levels, although my favorite so far is working with middle school and high school students.

I am a recent Georgetown graduate with extensive experience in teaching and tutoring. I tutored elementary English and math; middle school English, math, and science; high school level Latin and ancient Greek; and finally, undergraduate Latin and ancient Greek. I have also offered study sessions to help with college prep and standardized testing.

About the lesson

I like getting to know more about each student - what subjects they like, what they don't like, what they excel at, and what they struggle with. Building personal relationships helps to make the learning process more fun, and allows me to incorporate a number of different strategies and exercises into understanding new concepts.

I have worked with a variety of students and can handle a variety of issues, including those with learning disabilities or behavioral issues in a common classroom.
