About Jasper

Train in the style of Kung Fu that was taught to Bruce Lee by the legendary “Ip Man”! Wing Chun is the ONLY style that incorporates blocking AND punching at the same time, allowing the practitioner to transition between offense and defense in an efficient, lightning fast manner. Flow and crash like water!

Si-Fu Jasper Silvis started training in Traditional Wing Chun in 2003 under Master Keith Mazza after previously earning instructor rank in Shaolin Kung Fu, but saw a lacking in effectiveness in fighting from the Shaolin system. Through Wing Chun's adherance to principles over techniques, Jasper excelled in the amateur club circuit, posting an undefeated 19-0 record from 2005-2007 before leaving the fighting circuit to raise his family of 3 boys.

In 2016, a Sifu Seth Eisman opened the Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu Academy of Philadelphia (under Grandmaster Joseph Sayah's guidance) closer to Jasper's house in Drexel Hill, PA (5 minute drive as opposed to Master Mazza's school in Mt. Laurel, NJ - 50 minute drive). Jasper served as the senior instructor there for 4 years, achieving Level 7 black sash instructor under the guidance of Grandmaster Sayah, Master Mazza and Sifu Eisman.

When Sifu Eisman moved in April 2020, Si-Fu Jasper took over the school and moved it to a larger facility in Drexel Hill, PA, to accommodate the growing student base. Renovations were completed in August 2020 and the new school was opened!

Jasper Silvis is also a certified life coach (career, business, gifting, life transitions, etc.), personal trainer, sports nutrition consultant, and USA Track & Field level 1 coach. He applies his knowledge and experience in those fields to his teaching style to draw out the best in his students.

I love to see the growth - both mentally and physically - in all of my students. I enjoy hearing stories of how they are able to apply the principles of Wing Chun into their daily lives to improve their work environment, family connections, personal health, and spirituality.

Wing Chun is much more than fighting principles and applications. It has enhanced my life in so many ways and I feel so honored to offer those experiences and insights to my students.

Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu since 2003 (17 years as of 2020). Currently Level 7 instructor, but also served as senior instructor at previous school for over 4 years and have been teaching self defense seminars for over 10 years. Fought in the local amateur MMA club circuit for 3 years (2005-2007) with a 19-0 record.

Before Traditional Wing Chun, I was a black belt level practitioner within the Shaolin Kung Fu system (though Americanized, hence the black belt) from 1996-2003.

Cerified Personal Trainer since 2012. Certified USA Track & Field level 1 coach since 2012. Certified Life Coach since 2015. Certified Sports Nutrition Consultant since 2018. All experiences with clients and teams within these fields enhanced my teaching style to draw out the best in my students.

About the lesson

Prospective students can observe a class and participate in a free trial class. During the free trial class, the student will be able to join the general class with fellow students for most of the class period. About 20 minutes will be spent 1-on-1 with either Si-Fu Jasper or a trusted senior student if Si-Fu Jasper is teaching the general class.

In the first few months of training, new students learn basic footwork (stances, shifts, steps, sweeps and kicks) and handwork (guards, blocks, bridging and strikes) as part of the general class or in a smaller group of newer students for more personalized training.

I highly recommend wing Chung Kung fu of Philadelphia. My two girls 5 and 6 go their in the little dragons class. They absolutely love it. It’s very affordable also. The thing I like the most is the instructor or sifu Jasper. He is super good with the kids and is patient and makes sure they grasp what their learning. I have all good things to say about the school I highly recommend.
