About Andy

I offer tutoring across all ages and content. Specifically, in the humanities for middle and high school students, including literature, history, civics, and philosophy as well as business and economics. I also offer tutoring in all subjects for K-6th grade. I can also help your child prepare for their SAT/ACT college admissions exams.

I am a classically trained educator with a commitment to the moral and intellectual formation of citizen scholars. I have a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Florida and a MBA from the University of Georgia. I have also completed graduate study in history, western political philosophy, and economics. I am a former Assistant Professor at the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk where I taught military strategy and planning including courses in history, government, and politics. I am also a former faculty member at Calvary Classical School in Hampton, VA.

I have a certificate in college teaching, a certificate in online teaching, and have taken the Praxis exam for middle and high school social studies for endorsement in the state of Virginia.

I love teaching and mentoring young men and women in order to nurture a sense of wonder about what they are learning and to inspire them to excellence. I believe in an educational philosophy that emphasizes teaching students how to think rather than what to think.

I started teaching as an Assistant Professor at the Joint Forces Staff College when I was still on active duty in the Navy. I transitioned to primary school shortly after I retired from the military.

I have a certificate in college teaching, a certificate in online teaching, and have passed the Praxis social studies test for middle and high school endorsement in the state of Virginia. I also have four years experience as an Assistant Professor at the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, VA and I am a former faculty member at Calvary Classical School in Hampton, VA.

About the lesson

I like to have an initial phone or online discussion with the parents so that I can get a better understanding of their concerns and focus are for their child. After that, I like to discuss specific goals and expectations with the parents. During the first session, I like to get to know the student and also discuss their goals and expectations as well. After that, we will begin our tutoring sessions on a schedule that the parents agree to.

I have worked with a wide range of students, from younger elementary age students to high school students and also teaching young adults in higher education.

One of the best ways to learn is to have a good guide or tutor that will help you along your own path of self discovery and self examination. Look for someone who will not only help you, but who will challenge you to become your best self.
