About Meghan

I have been a teacher for 6 years. I love teaching younger students how to read, write stories and grow in math. Reading comprehension is so important my favorite thing to focus on. I have a California Miltiple Subject Credentialed teacher. I have taught TK, Kinder, and First grade, and also worked with students up to 5th grade. I am enthuastic and love making learning fun.

The thing I enjoy most about work is watching kids fall in love with learning. When they really understand what they are learning, they begin to enjoy it and they want to learn more. It is my favorite thing to witness.

It was somehthing I always wanted to do, from a little girl. I knew that I needed something to keep me engaged. With my high energy personality, I knew a desk job wasn't for me.

I have been an Elementary School teacher for 6 years. Before that I was a substitute teacher. I have taught TK, Kinder and First Grade, but I have also supported, studen taught and substituted in grades K-5. I have been trained in Fountas and Pinnell Literacy Program, Math Studio and Tool-Kit. Along with that I ahve also been trained in Tool Box, which is Social/Emotional Support and Project Based Learning.

About the lesson

I will first take time to get to know the student to learn about what they like and don't like, in order to build that connection. I will assess the student in order to know what they know and what they are still struggling with. I will then plan daily/weekely assignements, even on days I am not meeting, in order to be sure the student is learning and growing.

I have worked with students of all skill levels. I have worked with students who are visually impared, verbally impared, students who are nonverbal, English Language Learning, students with Autism and students with develpmental delays. I have worked with students who are homeless, and students who are very well off.

I would tell a student that they could really benefit from hiring a teacher with my expertise. I am excited about learning and teaching. I will push and support you along the way in order to make sure you are learning and growing.

I had a student who had gone through Kindergarden not speaking at all. Teachers, parents and school support team didn't know what was going on. They had taken him to the Doctor's and the Doctor's didn't know why he wasn't talking. After just a few weeks in my class he opened up and started to talk. He had a very thick accent and was hard to understand. I continued to talk to him and ask him questions (even when he wouldn't answer) he wouold use nonverbal clues and body language to express things to me. Within about 2 months he was completely talking, openning up and playing with friends at recess. It was so amazing to see.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Make sure they feel confortable. Make sure the teacher understand what the students goals and values are. Be sure they are a right match and the teacher can genuinally support the student.
