About Thorn

I show writers, actors, and others how to tell better stories and discover deeper craft and effective techniques.

I have edited, ghost written, or consulted on hundreds of non-fiction projects and several works of fiction over the last twenty years and have been leading improv ensembles and coaching and teaching improv for as long.

I use improv to drive my creative writing. I hold a two year degree with a focus in creative writing and am a student of the UCB Improv Training Center and the Second City Training Center.

I most enjoy connecting humans to their work by helping them find THEIR balance between creation and process.

My first clients were fellow fiction writers requiring proof reads, development, and critiques. I started just by being in writers groups but quickly found myself giving a larger and larger quantity of time because of my insight. I decided to value that time and began charging. Through my early connections I gained larger projects and consultation requests.

I am mostly self educated having begun college at 15 with a focus in Creative Writing. I completed my two year degree and began an ongoing self study in a variety of subjects useful to the writer. I began studying and using improv to drive my writing over my structured process in the early noughties. Since then I have been learning as an effect of critiquing and editing the work of other writers, working on my own long term project, and consulting and ghost writing for other writers.

About the lesson

We will have a half hour phone or zoom conversation, a short email exchange, or whatever other mode of communication you require so I can learn about your goals and expectations. I can then give you my assessment of your needs and my fee to guide you through reaching your goal.
