About Meredith

I am passionate about helping students because I was and still am one. I understand the difficulties of the German language, yet know it is worth learning. I have worked with children ages 6-12 during the pandemic. I helped them complete their daily homework and school tasks. I also lived in Germany for a year during high school. During my exchange, I attended a German speaking high school and spent most of my time outside of school with my younger host sisters. One of my sisters was 6, the other was 11. I would accompany them with their homework, play games, bike, and go on adventures with them. Neither spoke English, therefore I was completely immersed in the German language. It was during this time I was introduced to films, games, traditions, and hobbies of German children. I tutor German, however, have a thorough knowledge of the English language. My interests outside of academia include baking, cooking, going on walks, reading, and socializing with friends. I am eager to start working with students as soon as possible!

I have always had a love for teaching. As a child, I set up my room to be a school classroom and pretend taught for hours a day. I have since outgrown this activity, however still have a passion for imparting my knowlege and helping students. I love the German language and have definitely experienced times of difficulty. I want to use this experience to help enrich the lives of students, as German has done for me. I have free time this summer and decided to finally start tutoring German!

I am getting my education at the University of Kansas. I will start my fourth year in the fall and will graduate spring 2023 with a BA in Global and International Studies, a BA in German, as well as minors in Political Science and Middle East Studies. I have taken 8 years of German, attended a month long language camp, an after school grammer class in Germany, lived with a German family, and attended a German school for a year. I have also taken two years of Portuguese which has allowed me to further understand how one learns a language. Additonally, with all my German studies, I have an abundent and vast amount of resources to enhance and challenge my students learning at all levels.

About the lesson

My process for working with a new student is to adapt to the needs of the student. My style would change based on the age of the student. For younger students, I would teach more hands on and introduce cultural elements. For older students, I would discuss their needs and adjust my curriculum accordingly.

I have officially worked with younger students, and unofficially helped older students. I am comfortable in my ability to adapt to each student and their needs.

For one student, I charge $35 an hour. For each additional student I charge an additonal $20.
