About Julie

I have taught flute lessons in the Black Hills for the past 25 years. My students have been chosen to participate in South Dakota All-State Band and Orchestra, South Dakota Middle School All-State Band and received Superior ratings for Solo and Ensemble contests. My students participate in both solo group recitals each year. Most importantly, students receive instruction that will best suit their goals as a musician.

I received a Bachelor of Music degree with a major in flute performance from the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University, Youngstown, Ohio in 1983. I currently play with the Black Hills Symphony Orchestra, where I have been a member since 1995. I am also a founding member of The Cantio Flutes quartet. I also continue to perform for various productions with the Black Hills Community Theater.

Being a flute player from every level has given me the understanding of how to best help each student, as I use my experience to help students.

About the lesson

I listen to what a student has been working on or played in the past to get an idea of where they are musically. Then we discuss future goals and form a plan based on attaining them.
