About Alyssa

I have been playing the flute and piccolo for 11 years, and I started off right where you are! I started taking lessons in third grade, skipped beginning band in fourth grade and went to concert band, and shortly after that I was bumped up to symphonic band. I then won the John Philip Sousa award and played all throughout highschool and on my free time in college. I can teach students the efficient way to learn these instruments fast, and become excellent!

I love seeing the potential in students to succeed even when they are not feeling good enough. I almost quit playing my instruments when I was about a year into lessons, and with the determination I had, I became great. I was the first chair in every band I have been in. I want that for my students.

I fell in love with learning music and my instruments, and I want other people to have that opportunity as well! I started teaching when I knew that I wanted to take my music to the next level by helping other people learn.

When I first started I had a private instructor that gave me a good foundation and some tough skill work. I then had a band director from elementary school until the end of highschool that led our band which helped me focus on my tone and blending.

About the lesson

I will first only work with the headjoint of the flute to make sure that the way they put the sound into the instrument is correct. I will then have them learn how to clean the entire flute correctly. Then we will start with basic fingerings and scales. I will have flash cards to keep them familiar with what note is what, and what key it is in. Once all of this is learned, we would try harder scales and even a few small tunes.

I have worked with all kinds of students. Ages 8-40.

I can relate very well to people, and there is nothing to be afraid of. Trial and error with certain instructors is the key to success. I focus on using an approach that is not too demanding, but gives out instructive crisitism. I teach them everything that I know.
