About Laura

Hi! I'm a native American English speaker and recently received my CELTA certificate, which is the Cambridge Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults.

During my training I gained experience teaching adults in person, as well as online via Zoom.

Since last month I have also started giving private 1-1 English lessons in person.

I am passionate about teaching and meeting people from all over the world :)

I enjoy getting to know people and helping them with their English language needs. I love seeing students' progress and the confidence they get when being able to use newly learned vocabulary/grammar etc. :)

I have always loved learning new languages myself (I have studied Spanish, French and Italian among other languages at school and university), so then I decided to try teaching myself. I found that I really enjoyed working directly with people and sharing my passion for languages :)

I have a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology and a Master's degree in Humanities. Since I am a German-American dual citizen and grew up in Germany, I basically learned English as a second language at school, so I am very familiar with English grammar.

About the lesson

I love getting to know the student first and hearing about what their English language goals are and how they learn best. Then I will custom-plan lessons according to the students interests and needs, making the lessons as student-centered as possible.

I have worked with mostly Spanish-speaking adult students from Spain, Argentina and Mexico from levels A2-B2.

I would say: don't be afraid to make mistakes, the best way to learn is by making mistakes! :) Also, try to speak as much as possible, even if you don't know specific words. Try to describe it using different words :)

I hiked up Pikacho Peak in Santa Fe, NM, which is a beautiful hiking trail that leads up to a spectacular view of Santa Fe.
