About Cierra
I have been an adjunct professor of art appreciation and art history for 7 semesters, leading more than 25 individual classes including several online sections. Since gaining my first experiences as an educator while I ran a writing mentoring program during grad school at the University of Houston, I have taught at a high school and university level. Though it is sometimes overlooked, art history is a multidisciplinary field that requires knowledge of world history, cultures, languages, religion and philosophy, and more.
In addition to leading my own classrooms, for many years I have tutored students from the ages of 8-16 in everything from language arts, history, mathematics, and most frequently Spanish grammar and vocabulary.
I ran a writing mentoring program for two years and I have been an adjunct professor for 7 semesters, teaching more than 25 courses including several online.

I first try to get to know a student, what they are interested in, and what type of learner they are so that I can make whatever subject more relevant to them. I find that when students see real-world applications of the knowledge they are gaining, they are much more invested in the process.
In my various education roles, including as a docent in a contemporary art museum, I have worked with students from the ages 5-85.
I primarily teach dual-credit students at a high school, ranging from ages 14-19 as well as at a community college serving students 18-65. Working in schools just outside of Houston, TX, my classrooms are diverse and we strive to celebrate this.
When it comes to one-on-one tutoring, I have had students from the ages of 8-16, but I worked most extensively with an 11-year-old with dyslexia.

Details
Generally, I ask for $25-40 per hour, depending on the subject and amount of prep work needed. I create handouts such as visual aids, in-session activities, homework, etc. to better help the student achieve their goals. Sometimes the amount of prep requires much more than the time we meet online for our tutoring session and I feel it is only fair to be compensated for that time, as well.
