About Alia
Hello! I am a junior college student studying Early Childhood Development and Education, and use my spare time to tutor fellow students. Although I excel in psychology, sociology and environmental science, I prefer tutoring English as I am most comfortable with essay writing and grammar correction. I will help you apply for scholarships as well!
As a student myself, I have struggled in the past to do well in the education system. I recognize the difficulties of K-12 schooling and meet students where they're at. I believe every student can learn new behaviors to improve their foundational learning process, and aiding in this journey overjoys me.
As previously mentioned, my degree will be in ECED. That said, I began tutoring others as a senior in high school, helping members of clubs I organized weekly obtain desired grades on AP tests. I replaced my elective with a TA position for my English teacher of three years, and excelled. Since I have nannied for numerous families and have provided homework help in any subject when necessary.
As an Early Childhood Education and Development student, I am continually learning new perspectives when it comes to teaching K-12. The majority of my experience at the moment comes from nannying for several families throughout the past two years. These occupations gave me deep insight into family dynamics and the effect they have on children and their learning ability. I also have experience as an elected teacher's assistant throughout my senior year of high school, while simultaneously running two extracurricular clubs.

Before anything, I like to get to know any client I work with. My teaching style varies depending on their learning style, so it's important to establish why and how they learn. I make it a priority to help students establish skills to learn efficiently, especially when they find themselves struggling to study on their own. After building this foundational aspect I move into what a student might lack in a subject and address that first.
As a TA, many students I worked with we're learning English as a second language and had difficultly grasping syntax and grammar. These have since become my strong suits, and I now look forward to tutoring those that are learning English as a second or third language. My experience is balanced between K-12 grades, and I adapt for each student.

Details
I am practicing social distancing since the beginning of the pandemic. This means all of my sessions are online or telecommuted. I am offering lowered rates for family members of first responders. Currently my hourly is $25 an hour or two hours for $40. For all family of first responders I am offering a discounted rate of two hours for $30.
