About Mara

As an experienced elementary school teacher for the past twenty years, I have the passion, ability and desire to motivate my students to achieve their very best. I have a zest for teaching and possess the ability to instill that same passion in my students. I have had the opportunity to teach students from Kindergarten through Fourth grade. I have worked with children from every different background with multiple learning needs.

It is my mission to not only make learning meaningful, but also fun. I feel that it is imperative that I understand the unique individual needs of my students, tailor my plans to meet those needs, and to work collaboratively with families as a team in their children's education.

I have been awarded the noble title of "Teacher of the Year," "Greater San Diego Math Council Teacher of the Year, " earned a Masters Degree in Education, National Board of Professional Teaching Standards, and TEFL certified.

I understand that due to the current situation, many learning environments have been dramatically altered and families have had to undertake enormous changes and obstacles in their children's education. It is my objective to be the tool that your family needs to ensure academic success.

I have a flexible schedule and am willing to work with families with a program that best fits their needs.

My greatest accomplishments as a teacher is exemplified through my students success. I have had the opportunity to teach students from diverse ethnic, economic and intellectual backgrounds. Breaking through learning obstacles, diffencies, and barriers helps to ensure student success. As an educator, nothing pleases me more than when one of my students encounters a breakthrough and experiences that "a-ha" moment of understanding previously unknown material or connections. It is an immense thrill to be a part of my students educational journey when these moments occur.

I have a B.S. in Education from Penn State University, Masters Degree in Education from National University, am certified as a National Board of Professional Teaching Standards educator, and am TEFL certified.

About the lesson

When meeting a new student, it is essential that I gain as much information as possible, such as learning needs, objectives, learning style, past obstacles, and personal goals. It is also important to establish a routine that will benefit the learner to increase practice and mastery of skills.
