About Melissa
I am a patient and understanding substitute teacher. I have been subbing since September 2019. I also did my student teaching at an elementary school during the spring of 2019. Prior to student teaching, I have worked as an aide in a special education classroom for two years. My passion is teaching and I look forward to tutoring online. My schedule is flexible.
I feel happy to help students achieve exceptional academic results.
During my freshman year of college, I was undecided. I took a class that required me to complete at least 10 volunteering hours in an elementary classroom. I volunteered in my former elementary teacher's class for at least two hours every Friday morning. Even after I finished my 10 hours, I loved working with the students so much that I continued to volunteer until the end of that school year. I realized my passion for teaching.
While I was in college, I worked in a special education classroom for two years. I graduated with my B.A. in Liberal Studies. Afterward, I did my first student teaching assignment in a 1st grade classroom and my second student teaching assignment in a 5th grade classroom. I have worked as a substitute teacher in grades K-12, including mild/moderate special education classes, moderate/severe special education classes, and RSP.

When I work with a new student, I try to get to know them first because I want them to feel comfortable knowing that I am there to help them. I have a lot of patience while teaching, especially at my first meeting with a new student.
I have worked with students of all grades from kindergarten to 12th grade, including English language learners and students with disabilities.
Do not be afraid to ask the teacher questions.
I am fond of a recent memory when a first grade student hugged me throughout the day that I subbed for her class.

There is no such thing as a "stupid" question. Any question is fine as long as the student is asking politely.
