About Alison

I use student interests, goals, learning preferences and various, level-apprpriate activities to make learning fun, challenging and rewarding for my students. I have taught English language students of all ages and abilities (from preschool to college students and from students with very limited to advanced reading, writing, speaking amd listening skills).

I have a website called English Language Site for Students and Teachers ((concealed information) and a Facebook page devoted to promoting awareness of various learning and other challenges and acceptance of persons who are differently abled. This Facebook page is titled "All Ways Learning." My goal as a tutor is to inspire lifelong learning by showing students how enjoyable it can be when can engage with the material in a way that matters to them and can be accessed using their natural abilities.

I love seeing how much my students improve and enjoy our lessons. It's so satisfying to help them learn in a way that feels good AND allows them to learn quickly and deeply. My students help me create useful lessons for them by telling me how they learn best, what materials and activities they like/don't like, and their short- and long-term goals. My joy of teaching comes from seeing them reach their goals while having fun!!!

About the lesson

I find out about their short- and long-term learning goals, interests, learning preferences (I ask them questions to help determine this if they don't know how they learn best), learning challenges and for other information before we meet so I can be prepared for the first lesson. I make sure all of my students know they can ask for something different from me or suggest lesson ideas during my lesson with them as we as constantly monitor their engagement and understanding so to make sure they the lesson serves their needs and interests. I bring more material than needed to make sure to have enough for us to do as well as ask students to bring anything they want to work on. I offer choices, homework and outside resources during lessons as well.
