About Martin

I have worked with students who are below grade level and I brought them up to grade level using the LLI reading kits. I worked at an elementary school in Lakewood for 4 years before Covid happened. Now I'm taking this time to go back to school myself but I still want to be able to teach the kiddos. I worked with students from 1st grade - 6th grade.

I absolutely love working with students.

I absolutely love what I do. There is nothing more satisfying then when a student gets whatever their struggling and that bright light just hits and it all comes together for them. I love being part of that and showing them different tools to do it.

I actually started school in realste but when the teacher refused to teach the math section in a different way I helped out the other students with their math and showed them different ways and after that it just felt right! After that week I went and switch to secondary education then switched to elementary! I should have know it's what I wanted to do because ever since I was kid I would play teacher with my sister and friends. I have such a passion for helping kids understand things. I myself had to be in reading and writing classes when I was in elementary school and needed extra help and I use that to let them know it's okay to ask for help! Everyone, even their teacher, needed to ask for help.

I have a major in history and minor in elementary education. I have worked at a summer educational camp for 3 summers where I taught students ages 2-4 basic writing and English skills. Then for 4 years I worked at an elementary school as a LLI Reading and Writing Interventionist. I worked with students in groups of 4-8. I worked with 1st-6th graders who were under grade level and worked with them using the LLI reading and wiriting kits which I will be using with my tutoring sessions as well.

About the lesson

I think it's very important to have a positive relationship with the student. I not only want to get to know the student their interests but also want them to get to know me as well! I also try to incorporate their interests into the lesssons to keep it interesting for the students ! Makes it feel less like work for them.

I have worked with all kids from all kinds of backgrounds.

Ages ranging from 4-13 year olds.
I work with kids who were under grade level and brought them up their grade level.

I would definitely look for someone who you enjoy to work with.

I have recently volunteered at an Easter Egg hunt event for the local community that was so much fun! Especially during Covid times it was so nice to see the kids out and about having fun and smiling (hopefully since they were all wearing masks)

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
If they're willing to show you different ways to go about a problem or situation
