About Abbey

I am a PhD student in English and academic tutor looking to work with some great people. I have over ten years of experience working as a tutor with students from Pre-K -- graduate school, and have also coached basketball and volleyball and taught private lessons.

I hold an honors BA in English Language and Literature (summa cum laude), along with a Spanish minor, and an MA in Film/Television Studies (summa cum laude).

Following my Master's program, I was offered a fully opportunity to pursue a PhD in English. Prior to the doctoral program, I was employed as an Academic Writing Tutor at a university, worked in Special Education with elementary, middle, and high school students, and taught English abroad in Thailand. I currently teach English as an online adjunct professor. I can't wait to work with you!

Working closely with clients who wish to learn and improve their academic skills is one of my greatest joys. Whether I am tutoring elementary students with autism or helping graduate students craft their best research essays, I love helping others succeed in their educational goals.

As an undergraduate student I discovered my passion for teaching while working as a tutor in the university library. I was thrilled when my clients grasped a new concept, and enjoyed forming relationships with people who wanted to come back to me for help.

After graduation, I moved to Thailand to teach English at a private school outside of Bangkok, and realized that teaching was one of the greatest joys in life!

About the lesson

Often, I will meet new clients at a local library or coffee shop to discuss what they are looking for in a tutor. If it seems to be a good fit, I try my best to work with students' schedules and find a tutoring strategy that will be most compatible with their learning style.

My youngest clients have been in kindergarten, and my oldest have been in their 50s! I love working with students of all ages and with varying tutoring needs.

I have helped elementary students with Reading, Writing, Spelling, Math, and basic homework skills, taught English to non-native speakers, met with undergraduate, graduate, and adult studies students to edit and revise research essays, and tutored students with special needs in a school setting.
