About Maxwell
I believe that tutoring is beyond teaching. An exceptional tutor will recognize each individual's learning/writing style and assist in ways that would be most beneficial to the student.
I attended the University of Wisconsin from 2014 - 2018. I have a bachelor's degree in natural resource management. During this time, I was an academic writing tutor for undergraduate and graduate students. Before this, I was a writing tutor at my high school for 3 years. Combined, I have over 7 years of tutoring experience.
When I was a sophomore in high school, my English teacher recommended that I tutor other students with essay writing. Initially, I was reluctant, but I decided to go for it and have loved tutoring ever since!

I begin by introducing myself and assessing whether the student is comfortable or not (one-on-one tutoring can be intimidating at first). I like to chat with the student to create a mutual bond. This helps the student open up and get the most out of their tutoring experience.
I then get a feel for the students reading/writing levels and their style of writing. I base my approach to teaching on what I believe the student will best learn from.
Most of my tutoring experience has been with college-level students writing in APA, MLA, or Chicago style. I have worked with students of all ages and academic levels, however, and I love to help younger students with essay development and grammar.
I would advise students looking to hire a teacher to get in touch with the teacher/tutor before hiring. Compatible student-teacher relationships are extremely important for effective learning.
I recently moved from Northern Wisconsin to Eastern Kentucky!
