About Elise

As a former college professor with a Ph.D., I offer insider knowledge to help you or your child reach educational and professional success. Extensive training and years of practice have honed my teaching skills and helped me become a patient, compassionate educator. I enjoy working with diverse clients who have a range of needs.

I love interacting with students and seeing them grow as learners and scholars. I get most excited when I have the opportunity to devleop tailored plans that result in students becoming independent and capable learners.

My family is filled with teachers, but growing up I thought I would take a different path into something like social work or politics. However, when I entered graduate school and got my first position as a teaching assistant, I realized that I LOVED working with students! Being in the classroom for me is a joyful, fun experience, and it's what motivated me to pursue a Ph.D. and become a teacher.

As a Ph.D. with 15+ years of experience teaching in the U.S. university system, I offer in-depth, insider knowledge that can lead you or your child to educational and professional success. In addition to working as an instructor and mentor at the college level, I have helped a wide range of clients as a private tutor and coach: from Jr. High students in need of readng support to professionals working on their resumes. Additionally, for the last three years I have served as an editor for a magazine that publishes crossover content in fashion and cultural studies, helping writers make their work accessible for a broad audience.

About the lesson

Before the first meeting I'll ask the client to fill out a brief survey to determine the best starting point and course of action. I then develop a plan to help clients become confident and independent learners and help them achieve their academic and professional goals. I tailor strategies and lessons to a client’s needs and then develop engaging, supportive sessions that allow them to establish long-term connections with the material.

Details

Rates are determined by subject (i.e., ACT tutoring @ $75/hour vs. essay editing @ $45/hour). Other factors I consider include type of session (homework support vs. a tailored curriculum) and the client's financial needs.

Individual sessions range from $45-$75/hour
