About Lori

I love teaching!!! I've been a professional educator for ten years, primarily teaching middle school English/Language Arts. I am licensed in Wisconsin to teach all subjects in grades 1-8. I've also been certified in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and have taught over 200 online classes with 700+ students, 3-12 years old. No matter the age, student engagement is critically important, especially online, so I infuse creativity and fun into the lessons to keep students' attention and help them to retain what they're learning.

I enjoy both working with kids and teaching in general. I was teaching long before I decided to get my degree in education. When I learned something new, I found myself in a position to teach others (i.e. word processing, accounting, etc.). After I became a mother, I started teaching Sunday School classes and realized that I also enjoy teaching children. There always seems to be an opportunity to laugh and have fun. What's not to like!

When my children were younger, I taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and I realized that I loved teaching children. That's when I decided to return to school and get my teaching degree. After a couple of years of substitute teaching, I taught middle school language arts full time for the next ten years. Wonderful!

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. I am licensed as a Professional Educator in the State of Wisconsin, specifically grades 1-8 with an emphasis in Language Arts. I am certified in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).

About the lesson

Before an actual tutoring session, I like to meet with the student AND parent or guardian using a Zoom or Google Meet call in order to get to know the student and assess his or her tutoring needs. This is a free consultation (about 15 min.) where parents and prospective students will have an opportunity to ask questions, as well.

In the classroom, I've worked primarily with 12-14 year-olds.

Online, I've worked with students ranging from 3-12 years old. These students are learning to speak and read English at a variety of levels.

When you are looking to hire a tutor, and you want to get the most out of your tutoring sessions, it would be wise to hire a teacher with experience both in the classroom and online.
