About Brian

Over the years, I have developed the study skills to be the Valedictorian of my high school and study at a high level in college. I love to pass on my tricks, techniques, and general knowledge to younger students. Additionally, I hope to mentor my students to help them explore our world, develop interests, and achieve their goals. I have been tutoring since my junior year ar Oberlin College, and since receiving my BA, I have begun to tutor more often, in conjunction with my continued studies. I am currently based in New York City, NY but have always offered online options if that would suite your situation.

I like teaching because I get to watch and nurture growth in my students. I love tutoring especially because of the close nature of a one on one lesson and because of the impact I am able to have on a student, whether that be to help them comprehend complicated systems, or to give them the tools to reach their goals.

I began tutoring when a friend of mine told me that he tutored online in between classes and studying at college. I had been looking for a way to do this and he put me in contact with someone who was looking for an English tutor. Through word of mouth, I was introduced to new students and have continued to tutor them since.

Throughout my middle school, high school, and college and college years, I have always been apart of some kind of mentorship program, whether if be for a school subject, advice about what classes to take in high school, or for soccer. In college, I taught a summer camp with a friend about film-making, photography, and environmental history in conjunction with the National Park Service. Soccer has also played a large part in my teaching and mentorship. I oftentimes helped coach at my soccer clubs summer sessions, after graduating from it, when I was home from college, as well as helped coach at a local University soccer school. Ever since I started teaching, coaching, and mentoring I have loved it and have always found ways to continue.

About the lesson

Typically, I begin by evaluating what the student needs. I think about materials and amount of time needed and begin to plan a schedule that will meet the student's needs. I will then present a schedule and lesson structure to the student or student's parents and ask for feedback before starting weekly/biweekly/monthly/etc. lessons. After this is established and lessons begin, I start to get to know the student and their learning style and may adjust the structure, materials, and goals according to a student's progress or request.

I have worked with students from all over the world. For someof my students, English is their second language, while others are from the United States and attend college prep academies.
