About Sapna
Hi! My name is Ms. Sapna Rampersaud and I believe in every child's fundamental right to a great education. Tutoring is a great way to get individualized or small group support on a variety of topics! I have been a private and group tutor since I was in high school. I had started my own business and tutored in English, French, math, and economics. After I graduated, I went to Harvard and tutored there too! I tutored in French language and graduated with a Bachelor's in Government, History, and French.
After college, I worked as a 5th and 6th grade special education English teacher through Teach for America and I taught ELA, reading, and writing. I am now returning to my hometown to continue tutoring. Learning during the pandemic can be challenging, but learning with Rampersaud Tutoring can make it so much more worthwhile and achievable!
Is there something you'd like to improve on or better learn? Is there something you need to know for a class but just don't quite fully understand yet? Are you thinking about applying to college, but don't know where to begin with your college essay? Are you working on writing something, but want to learn to proofread and edit better? Said yes to any of these? Then, feel free to reach out and let's partner to get you where you want to go! I'm looking forward to working with you!
I began tutoring in high school because I recognized that there was a need for this and there were no tutors available, for a reasonable price, in my hometown. I tutored friends, adults, college students, younger students, etc. and really enjoyed the impact that I had. In one instance, I was even able to support one student in graduating after tutoring him to help him pass his required economics class. For me, tutoring is the kind of individualized support that is beneficial for everyone in some capacity!
When I went to college, I didn't want to leave my tutoring business behind, so I continued to tutor in a subject that I was passionate about: French literature, language, and culture! I tutored all four years of college and decided that I wanted to continue with education so I joined Teach for America and began working as a special education teacher!
I have 8 years of individualized and group tutoring experience as well as a Bachelor's degree from Harvard University. I am also currently finishing up my Master's in Education (with a focus in curriculum, teaching, and special education) from Boston University. I have served as a full-time special education ELA teacher and taught various classes on reading and writing and my focus is on working one-on-one and with small groups.

Typically, before we begin our tutoring partnership, I get to know my prospective tutees and what they are looking to get out of tutoring. I ask questions about their current education, their relationship to school, any educational accommodations they receive or need, their interests, and their aspirations. After that, we work on a plan and schedule to help them best meet their academic needs and goals! Once that is complete, and we work out any logistics, we can begin our sessions!
I have worked with all types of students! I've tutored students in 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade as well as freshmen, sophomores, and juniors in college. I have also worked with adults seeking English proficiency. Most recently, I've worked with students in 5th and 6th grade. I have also worked with students of all different socioeconomic, cultural, racial, and linguistic backgrounds.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Taking agency in your own education is one of the most empowering things that you can do! Before talking to a teacher about your needs, you can always begin by thinking about the concepts that you are having a hard time with. All educators (whether they are teachers or tutors) are there to help you and we always welcome your feedback. If you are having trouble with something, tell us! And try to be as specific as you can so we can best help you (e.g. tell us what exactly you are confused by, what exactly is and isn't helpful to you in the learning environment, etc.).
