About Lesley

As a student, I was exposed to the English language through a wide range of perspectives. I began as an ESOL student, and progressed to on-level, honors, and Advanced Placement (AP) English. I learned English and Spanish side-by-side, so you could say both languages are considered native to me. I have also studied at Flagler College in areas such as education, ESL certification, tech and portfolio, and more. I can confidently accomodate my tutoring to better fit your needs.

My favorite part of what I do is seeing the impact my tutoring and student's hard work has in their daily life. My tutoring style is purposefully structured so that the more you learn, the less reliant on a tutor you will be. My goal is to help you become self-sufficient and organized so you can move onto more challanging subjects if you wish.

My first tutoring job was in third grade, when I was asked by the principal to tutor a class of thirty spanish-speaking kindergarterners as a teacher assistant. From that moment forward, teaching was one of my favorite hobbies, and once I was old enough to understand I could make a career out of it, I instantly made it a goal to be a teacher.

I studied a Major in Education, Spanish and Secondary English at Flagler College. I also completed my ESL training to gain my certification to teach the subject while in the education department.

About the lesson

I have worked with students K-12, college students, adult learners, international students, and ESOL students.

My biggest advice is to ask the person their method of learning, because that usually leads to their primary method of teaching. I have noticed that some people learn better with their peers, not because they have a bad teacher, but because the peer shares a similar method of learning.

Recently, an international student of mine managed to take the SAT and passed with an above-average score although English is her second language. When I began working with her, holding a conversation was difficult and she was rarely called on for participation in class. Now, she is a social butterfly that is college-bound!

I charge $25 per hour on weekdays and $28 per hour on weekends. A typical session with me typically lasts an hour or more.
