About Susan
Learning takes life to its most rewarding moments. To master an art or answer a challenging question with confidence is not a small thing. But it often takes just a little guidance and support to reach that level of mastery and confidence.
As a retired lifelong learner and teacher, at just 63, I now have the time to devote to more personalized learning. I have taught all grades K - 12. Grades 4-6 for many fulltime years, as well as high school for 6 years. I hold a California Teaching Credential, and several supplemental credentials - such as Highly Qualified Status in High School English and History, as well as the CLAD certification to help with learners who speak English as a second language. I taught a total of 25 years and still work part time as a substitute when needed.
I am strong in all elementary subjects but my strongest areas are writing, English, and elementary math. I also enjoy teaching U S History at both elementary and high school levels. I have been given awards such as Lifelong Member of the National Teachers Hall of Fame and have been formally recognized by the International Reading Association for some original ideas in helping children in the area of learning reading.
I enjoy the children (people) I get to know and assist. Seeing someone understand a concept or gain speed or accuracy is such a rewarding experience.
