About Betty
Betty is an accomplished artist with training in drawing, painting, performance art, installation and participatory arts. She is interested in helping budding artists to build a dynamic portfolio of their work for the purpose of further education or a career in the arts. She teaches in a Large private studio located in the industrial section of Yonkers, NY which is accessible to all of Westchester and Northern Bronx. Classes are individualized to the student. Please note no online instruction offered - all classes are in person. Therefore students must be within transportation range.
Betty started teaching art in 2004 in Bedstuy, Brooklyn to children in the neighborhood who did not have access to art and did not attend afterschool programs. She partnered with a local store to use space to set up tables and materials for children age 10-15 in the neighborhood. The art classes were successful and started to build a community around children making art and showing off their work. Since then she has taught art in various academic and social programs and founded an art studio program for people with disabilities.
Betty has advanced education in Fine Arts, including a BFA from Hunter College, individual study at the Art Students League, Lower East Side Print Shop, and Studio One. Betty has focused on Painting, Drawing, Performance, Digital Painting, Printmaking, Ceramics, and Installation.

1. Consultation - finding out what a prospective student would like to focus on, what their strenghts and struggles are and what type of time commitment they would like.
2. Setting up a weekly schedule and learning objectives
3. Engaging in learning process.
Betty has taught art to adults and children age 10-18. She works with Social Work MSW and BSW students to aid them in completion of their studies and exam preparation. She helps social workers who are working in the field to understand mental health policy and practice.

Betty helped me get into art school. I wanted to go to art school, but I was afraid my art was not good enough. I was only drawing cartoons and anime, and she helped me start painting and drawing in many different styles and subjects and helped me find my own style. She helped me build a portfolio and I got into art school. I'm hoping to go to graduate school for an MFA next.
