About Thomas
I present the ability to develop a branding profile for smaller companies, start-ups, and individuals that do not have the opportunity to hire a full marketing firm or design team. I am an illustrative consultant. This means I use illustration to answer design problems and provide strength in networking to provide other avenues of production work to bring things to fruition.
When I was in my early 20s, I started substitute teaching for the Socorro Independent School District in El Paso, Texas. I worked as a trainer/instructor while I was in the military doing my prescribed job. I tutored everything I could when I was finishing my Industrial Design degree. I taught at a community college in the Technical Design department for a little over a year... Now I work at my Alma mater... Training and teaching whenever I can.
I am an industrial designer... I have been drawing for 20+ years professionally and for hobby. I have been rooted in education and training all my professional life.

The most important thing to start is understanding their background and how they learn best. I've taught and tutored at the collegiate level. Worked in training for nuclear propulsion in the military. Taught in high school and junior high... Even taught an autistic young man. Understanding the student is at the forefront.
Special needs... K-12... Adult... Creative... Analytical... You name it, probably have interacted with them.
Do your research. Everyone teaches differently. Know how you learn best... Take time for self-reflection because then you will be able to find someone that can push your abilities.
Everyday I come to work, I try to evaluate a win. I currently work in admissions and I have an opportunity everyday to show individuals that college is accessible. You have to put in an effort, but it is possible if you are willing to work for it.

As I said... Self-reflection. Have a goal. Know what you actually want to accomplish and do not be vague about it.

Details
No set standard. Base line starts at $30 an hour and can fluctuate dependent on resources and repoire. My time is precious to me because I see it as our most prized commodity. I teach more than illustration... I prefer to have conversation with a student to help them progress, but to encourage them bringing more to the table. As they learn... I prefer to gain whatever knowledge they can present in our lessons. I am a reader of Tao, and I maintain an inner peace for my spirituality. I believe the learning process has to be holistic to broach a successful environment for interaction.
