I was looking for part-time work (and also missed dancing very much!) and was hired at a local dance studio while I was living in NC. I started with 1 tap class, but the following year there was so much interest in the classes that I wound up jumping to teaching 6 classes in addition to private lessons.

I have over 25 years of tap dance experience and 6 years of tap teaching experience. I've have had over 100 students with varying ability and skill levels (ages 7 - adult). In addition, I also have a background in education (M.ED in English) and taught 10th grade English for 7 years, and I incorporate multiple learning styles into my tap lessons. My style is more like traditional Broadway tap and show tap.

About the lesson

It's important for me to indiviualize every lesson to best meet the needs of each student. I first determine the student's comfort level and skill level with tap dancing to know the best place to start. We'll learn tap steps, vocabulary, technique, and popular rhythm combinations to get a great foundation set, and then continue to build on that foundation to keep them feeling confident but challenged.

I have worked with students at all ability levels. Most of my students were 11 - 17 years old, but I've also taught elementary students and some adult classes. Over the years, I've had students with learning disabilities, students who were selective mute, and a few students with autism. Tap dancing is beautiful because it's a language all its own, and there is room for everyone to feel confident and make tap be their happy place :)
