About the lesson

What to Expect from Your First Class
If you feel nervous, scared or a little intimidated, no problem, many people feel that way initially. Just don’t let it stop you from coming to class. You’ll be surrounded by people who started just like you are. Nannette designed these classes for beginners, so know that with a little practice you’ll quickly feel right at home. And don’t think you have to know how to dance before coming to class. That puts the cart before the horse. Take any Beginners class with us and we’ll have you laughing and moving to the music in no time!

What to Bring
You may want to bring water or something to drink with you to class. Some locations have water available but not all. Other than that just bring your eager, smiling face.

Arrive
Arrive 10–15 minutes early for your first class. This gives us time for registration and orientation. Arriving early ensures a stress-free and relaxed beginning to your life long Ballroom Dance practice.

Dress
Dress in any clothing that you are comfortable in. We don’t recommend very long skirts or extremely billowy sleeves. Other than that if you’re comfortable, we’re happy.

Shoes
Smooth soled shoes that stay on your feet are best. Backless shoes, tennis shoes or rubber soled shoes are the hardest to learn in. However, if all you have in your closet is rubber soles, don’t worry about it. You’ll still be fine until you can find some smooth soled shoes.

During Class
During class nobody will look at you or judge you. The teacher will guide you and instruct you, always with compassion and respect and usually a little fun. No need to be self conscious. It’s helpful to realize that people’s focus is on themselves, most are concentrating too hard to even notice you.

Make a Commitment
Make up your mind to take all 8 of your first Beginners Classes. The first class or two may feel like you’re pushing your envelope a bit. But soon your feet will remember where to go and you’ll be laughing and having fun with your new dance friends.
Remember, everyone had their very first dance class, even the people who have been coming for years. They make it look easy because they’ve had lots of practice, and you can too.

What’s Next?
Once you’ve completed your first Beginners Class you can continue dancing by taking any other classes labeled as Beginner. You also have the option of continuing with the Intermediate level class in the dance you just finished. Each of our classes are eight 55-minute lessons for $116 per person. In our classes we focus on one dance for the entire eight weeks.

So there you go… you’re ready to rock… now pick a convenient time and location and register for class as quickly as you can. We look forward to meeting you soon!

We work with all types of students! If you can walk in unassisted you can dance.

Shop around. Not all Ballroom studios price the same. There is a wide range of prices and skill levels. Call and talk to them before you decide.

We have open practice dances the first Saturday of every month.

We also host an annual competition every October called No Frills Just Fun; NFJF.
