About Haleyann

Hello, I'm Haleyann! I recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from UCLA in the Ray Bolger Musical Theater Program. I've been performing since my first ballet class at age three. I have extensive training and professional experience in dance, singing, and acting. Dance styles include: ballet (en pointe), jazz, tap, contemporary/lyrical, hip hop, and musical theater. While the stage has been my home for the most part, I also have experience in film and television acting and as a director and choreographer. My teaching experience includes working as an intern and teachers' assistant at American Conservatory Theater's 2017 summer performing arts program, and choreographing "Junie B. Jones Jr." for Bay Area Children's Theatre in 2018. I've worked with kids ages 3-18. My teaching philosophy is based on optimism and discovery. I believe that a positive attitude is the only way to approach tackling a new skill, and I encourage students to not be afraid of failure; it is how we discover and learn! I would love to work with you or your child online during this pandemic, and possibly in person once it is over.

Performing is my passion and I absolutely love helping others discover or their passion, whatever that may be. I believe art is a unifying factor, or that it should and can be. I believe art is essential and should be accessible to everyone. If there is something I can do in my power to spread more art, I will! Let me know if you need accomodations related to your lessons so that I may best serve you!

I first taught dance at an elementary/middle school summer camp in the summer of 2014. For the next two years, I taught group voice classes at the same summer camp. In 2016 I taught private dance lessons for a high school student and helped to choreograph her college dance auditions.

I attended the School of Theater, Film, and Television at the University of California, Los Angeles. My degree is a Bachelor of Arts in Theater with an emphasis in Musical Theater. I was exposed to performing arts at a very young age, as my mother is a professional opera singer and several other family members are drama teachers, directors, actors, etc. I danced with Fern Adair Conservatory of the Arts in Las Vegas for ten years, and was a member of the esteemed Silhouettes Dance Company in Colorado.

About the lesson

Process varies based on the student's level. I discuss with the student their experience and training and evaluate based on that. It truly depends on what the subject is. Acting is something that can be started at any age and at any level and will offer immediate results. Technique is an extremely important part of singing and dancing, so I ensure the student has basic technical voice and/or dance skills and build off of that.

During the pandemic, I have had some truly great Zoom conversations with artists (actors, directors, agents, etc.) from all over the country. We've talked about how the industry will change, and how we help the world as artists.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
You can think about the level at which you are, and the level at which you aspire to be. Having attainable, concrete, and specific goals is always very helpful when learning/practicing a skill.
