About Samantha

Our mission is to provide quality dance education for all students and all body types. Through scientifically proven developmental education techniques that encourage the growth of the body, mind and spirit. We will support the love of dance as an artform as well as an athletic lifestyle. In accordance with the statement of the acclaimed Martha Graham, "Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion."

Samantha Blanchard was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts where she began her dance training with Marion Rice: a former student of Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn. Blanchard received her B.F.A. in Dance from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a Certificate of Completion for Participatory Arts and Research from Moving On Center. Blanchard received her MFA in Creative Inquiry and Interdisciplinary Arts from California Institute of Integral Studies. Her research at CIIS on the teaching tract, involved creating Developmental Dance Theater Technique; an interdisciplinary pedagogical collision of movement and vocal techniques, developmental movement patterns and student driven composition. Blanchard successfully taught DDTT and scaffolded focused curriculum for Berkeley Ballet Theater, Danspace,The Berkeley School, Diablo Valley Ballet, as a Dance Teacher volunteer with Oakland Unified School District and was ultimately commissioned to create a Movement Stories Curriculum for LePort Preschool; a prestigious San Francisco academy. She also taught DDTT to Dancers with Parkinson's and with Dance4Healing to cancer patients at Stanford Cancer Laboratory and virtually.

As Artistic Director of Eclipse Dance Theater, she presented, self-produced and toured twelve evening-length works both nationally and internationally. Eclipse's mission aims to collide dance and the spoken word to create cutting-edge feminine perspectives of theatrical experience, reflecting the views and experiences of modern women.

Eclipse was the resident company for 5 years in San Francisco for Dancers' Group Studio Theater where they taught company class, rehearsed and performed. After the 2000 Dot cominvasion, Eclipse was evicted from Dancers' Group and began a children's program and directed summer camps at Dance Mission Theater. Eclipse profited well at Dance Mission until 2005 with the second wave of the Dot com invasion creating a rental surge worse than the previous invasion. Eclipse retreated to Oakland, CA where Blanchard taught at Danspace for the next 10 years.

Eclipse Dance Theater was the recipient of numerous awards including grants from The Zellerbach Family Fund. The company has been quoted by the San Francisco Bay Guardian fortheir "...simple genuineness," by the East Bay Express "...that inherited wisdom-whether folk or esoteric-can offer us direction for a more authentic future," and by the World Dance Review as "Stunning!"

eclipse dance studios will provide quality dance education influenced by:

*Brain-Compatible Dance (Anne Green Gilbert)

*Elements of dance (both H'Doubler and Laban)

*Structuring discrete dance lessons aligned with National Core Arts Standards

*Integrating dance across subject matter

*Human development theory, infant to adult

*Observation and instruction methods

The studio will teach classical styles from beginning to pre-professional in Ballet, Jazz, Modern dance and Choreography allowing them to attain employment with companies such as: Disney, Mark Morris Dance Company, Miami Ballet Company and as Teaching Artists at any local studio or proprietor of their own dance studio. Dancers coming out of of eclipse dance studios will be stronger and have fewer injuries from the appropriate developmental training. They will be more well rounded as dancers and people and will be able to not only dance and choreograph but have an opportunity to teach through a junior training program or work study. They will learn anatomy and kinesiology for injury prevention and have multiple opportunities to perform throughout the year. These strategies will build a complete dancer from the inside out.

eclipse dance studios dance training comes from over 30 years of teaching and comparing what works and what doesn't to infuse the love of dance into each heart while perfecting the body and igniting the spirit.

I absolutely love working with children of all ages. They bring an honesty and enthusiasm unlike many adults. I feel that I learn just as much from them as they do from me. I encourage feed back and collaborative suggestions on discipline, music and run a student driven class.

Dance lessons offered by Samantha are tailored to each student's needs and level. Lessons can also be held online. Lessons are also available in Cocoa. The first lesson is free to define learning goals and methodology.
