About Elizabeth

I love to cook and I love to teach people to cook! I started cooking over 30 years ago, travelling to Paris for 15 years to learn the culinary traditions of France. Then I started working at the famous Spice House in Milwaukee, which changed everything. I specialize in the art of flavoring food; using spices to create beautifully balanced dishes. I love to cook everything and especially love to cook Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Indian cuisines.

I had a catering business for 20+ years in addition to teaching culinary arts and working in the spice industry. I've recently returned to my roots - making delicious, classic French crepes in farmer's markets and pop-up events in Madison, Wisconsin.

I love to cook and I love to teach people to cook. I enjoy engaging with the people that supply food - farmers and merchants - who consider factors like sustainability, respect and value. And, I love the creative process; starting with delicous ingredients and creating exciting and flavorful dishes to enjoy.

I started teaching while working at the Spice House. Many community groups and culinary organizations request spice talks, and I was sent to do some of those. I soon realized how much I enjoy teaching culinary arts.

I am a self-taught cook; having spent the first 10 years diving into all aspects of the culinary arts. My experience as a caterer early in my career afforded me the opporutnity to push myself far and quickly. I have worn these hats as a cook: caterer, educator, spice merchant and lecturer, private chef, cook book author and consultant.

About the lesson

I like have a conversation with new students to thoroughly understand what they would like to learn and to help me organize a plan for teaching. We may meet in a cafe to discuss their experiences with food and anything else that is relevant to create a plan for their success.
