About Claire

I think because I am in college and a student myself, I'm able to use the fact that I am constantly learning and working on school to my advantage.

I love learning. Even if it's simple like reading a middle school book, I am able to learn things. In the case of a "young" book, I learn about the culture that younger kids are growing up in. The books I read are different than the ones my mom did and different than the ones my sister is reading.

I'll be honest, I got started by teaching myself. I didn't feel like my schools were doing enough so I was finding ways to teach myself... and it worked! I have a passion for learning about anything and everything. I want to help others maybe not find that passion, but allow them to feel more confident in themselves.

I am currently pursuing a bachelor's in Biology and Spanish and I'm on a Pre-med track. I have maintained a 3.9 average since my junior year of high school.

I won't pretend to know all the answers but I'm very passionate about finding the correct answers in any way I can.

I have tutored once before by helping a student practice his reading. I was able to help him ease some of the anxiety he had with reading and gave him a safe space to mess up and learn.

About the lesson

I like to see how each individual works best in their education. If one strategy doesn't work, we'll try another!

It's important to have a safe place to learn and to mess up and try to maintain that space. I feel like learning is very vulnerable and I have experienced situations where I didn't know where to start and had no one I trusted to ask help. I don't want other students to feel that.

I've worked with primarily middle schoolers but I'm able to work with any age group - up to college, though I know a few college courses are a little above my level.

Make sure you are comfortable with your tutor/teacher! In school, you don't always have the luxury of choosing your teachers so use this moment to be comfortable with your choice. If one tutor isn't working, don't feel shame for switching. This is your education! (and your money)

I'm unsure of a recent event in the world, but for me personally, a somewhat recent even is my cat, Remy. He was born on Halloween and I adopted him this year. I am very fond of him.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Hmm... This is a good question. I think that being able to formulate what you're trying to say is important. Not one to get your point across, but also for your own nerves. I always write down the points I want to talk about before seeing a teacher (or the doctor) and it helps me not forget anything and to articulate myself better.
