About Colby

I explain the rules of hitting in an objective way to empower players to produce top swing quality to all 9 pitch zones. I teach the moder pro style of baseball. Swing hard, in the case you hit it, take pitches out of the zone and spoil tough pitches. All of my hitters are able to consistently generate free and easy bat speed be able to hit the ball to all fields. Players are taught how to get to their strong position and have that guide pitch recognition.

I have experience in S&C, rehabbing injuries, and building up all 5 Tools in baseball. Players will become versatile athletes that can play the game at a high level and excel in all facets of the game.

Players will be evaluated based on fitness, mental skills and baseball skills. Grades in each of these categories sums up what the player is capable of in the current moment, and what their ceiling might look like.

I enjoy the progress that all of my players have been experiencing. Watching players improve their movement patterns and having their velocity increase monthly is most rewarding. I believe healthy competition in training is vital to all training regiments. I have had success with a number of different types of learners and athletes, because I adapt to create an environment that helps them thrive. Once they build enough confidence in the lab, they can go to any field and play at a high level.

I started instruction in college, now 10 years of experience and have been doing baseball research since I was 12 years old. I have a deeper understanding about what it takes to survive and play at the college and pro level. I can guide players to have crisp movement patterns that free up their arm and bat when executed because I have experience from all three perspectives of baseball: playing, coaching and umpiring. My unique perspective helps me attack all players weakest links.

About the lesson

We do a quick warming up of the body, then some explosiveness and weighted ball drills. Next, we work on the desired skill of improvement. Finally, we end the lesson with a challenge in the skill we're working on.

I use mental models to describe technique improvements, and I read body language and facial expressions to gauge when players are thinking instead of playing. Consistency is very difficult for all players, and reps will help, but improving the mental approach is what permanently fixes the high variance in performance. English and Spanish speaking players.
