About Emmett
I have always wanted to be a teacher. Deaf culture and ASL have always been my passion and I can't imagine my life without being part of the the Deaf world. American Sign Language is a fundamental language here in the US, because thousands of people use it everyday to communicate!
I have been using sign since I was a kid. I am Hard-of-Hearing (HOH), so it has made a huge difference in my life growing up and it still does today. Sign Language bridges gaps for the Deaf and hearing, and allows people to enjoy life to the fullest no matter their ability to hear. With signing, there are fewer moments missed and many more opportunities to explore.
Currently I am in college, studying for my B.A. in ASL/Deaf Studies and Education. I have had over 20 years of experience and involvement with the Deaf community and 10 years of formal education in American Sign Language. I have a fluent knowledge base of PSE (Pidgin Signed English) and SEE (Signed Exact English). Growing up I used both of these forms of sign before learning ASL.
I love working with children, and would be thrilled to start a Deaf or hearing child on their life long journey to ASL. I know it can be scary for hearing parents with Deaf children, or children with communication challenges to find out how to help their child. My goal is to help families start on a path to better their communication skills and help bring them closer together. Every child deserves to be understood and have the chance learn.
I am HOH (Hard-of-Hearing) and use ASL everyday. I am also earning my B.A. degree in ASL/Deaf Studies and Education at an accredited university.

I'd like to get to know their knowledge base for the language, if any at all, and see how much time they are willing to commit each day to practice. ASL is a very involved language and should be used daily to gain any fluency.
