About Jay

Professional Actor for 30 years- Broadway, Off-Broadway, National Tours, International, Regional Theatre, TV, film, commercials, etc.. Acting Teacher for 4 years at New York Film Academy and the American Musical Theatre Academy. Acting Coach for 20 years for auditions. Have worked with all ages and levels.

Sort of fell into it. Went back to Syracuse to do a play after I graduated and they asked me to fill in for a class that a teacher was unable to teach. Taught Freshmen Acting for 8 weeks and loved it. Began coaching friends for their auditions soon after moving to NY and then branched out and taught to others. Taught Acting at the Actor's Connection and have always led workshops connected to most theatre jobs I have had both on tour and regionally. Was recommended to the New York Film Academy four years ago and have loved working with my students there.

BFA from Syracuse University in Acting

Trained at London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts

Teacher at New York Film Academy in NYC for 4 years- teaching Acting for stage and TV/Film as well as Scene Study, Musical Theatre Scene Study and Audition Technique.

About the lesson

Chat on the phone or email to discuss what they'd like to work on. Then make an appointment for a coaching/acting session- Usually my students come to me or rent a studio in midtown but I will travel to a student in Manhattan. Often I will ask them to email me the material they are working on in advance so I can be familiar with it.

Every age...from children to Adults. Every range of experience from absolute beginners to working professionals. At NYFA I work with quite a lot of foreign students as well.

Find someone you connect with but also someone who challenges you. Someone who gets back to you in a timely manner who is organized and makes themselves available to their students. Someone passionate about Acting but also with a great sense of humor and perspective of what the business of it is.

I recently produced a short film I also wrote and directed. I raised the money for it and raised $15,000 to make it happen. It was the hardest thing I have yet to tackle in my career and also perhaps the most rewarding. I am very proud of it and extremely grateful for the experience.

Ask around- do some research about the teacher- in this world of social media we all have friends or people in common so see if you can find out more about the person by doing a bit of googling and online searching.
