About Dallas
I really tailor my tutoring to each individual student. This is deliberate because I recognize that each person has different interests and different understandings of the world around them. By connecting the material that they're struggling with to something they are interested in, they're more likely to understand and remember what it is they're trying to understand. I take a lot of time to tailor and think about how best to approach a tutoring session, especially after the first session.
I really enjoy being able to work with someone over sessions and see them improve over time, especially if a student has a hard time and they're finally able to understand a concept or get a grasp of what they're struggling with. I've helped a lot of students in the past understand and slowly develop some confidence in whatever it is they're struggling with or going to tutoring sessions for.
I started tutoring in high school, first by volunteering to teach elementary school students basic math and English and learned that I enjoyed tutoring and helping people really connect the dots over time. After learning that I enjoyed teaching, I started tutoring students in high school classes that I had previously taken (while in high school) and also helping them get better scores on the ACT. While in college, I've been a TA for some classes as well and I've taught students through my TA sessions as well.
I've scored a 34 composite score on my ACT, but have scored 36 on Reading, 35 on English, and 35 on Math. I have previously tutored high school students in the past before being on this website on how best to study for the ACT, practice for the test, and get better scores. I have helped students get up to five points higher on their composite ACT score.

Depending on the subject, I try to do a short diagnostic quiz that allows me to figure out what the student struggles with the most. If the student is already aware of what they struggle with, I typically go over the concepts and teach the idea and concept in a way that is tailored to the student's interests or strengths. After that, we go over practice problems together, gradually putting more responsibility on the student to solve the question, and then eventually having the student solve the question by themselves. I go over previous questions that the student has missed in the past so they learn and are able to correct for the mistake going forward.
