About Mahshid

I am an engineer and computer programmer who loves teaching and tutoring math with 15+ years of experience with hundreds of students from all grades and university. I love seeing my students enjoy their immediate grade improvements. I have proudly been able to improve all my students' achievements by at least two letter grades. Very commonly, my students return to further their knowledge during the summer, and like to stay with me for the rest of their academic careers.

About the lesson

When I teach, the first thing I consider is the student's level and needs. I realize that each student learns in a unique way and a part of my job as a tutor is finding their way. I believe in making a personal connection to my students, rather than being "just" their tutor. Being patient and passionate is the key to having the students be more involved and interested in solving the math questions. Giving them confidence is necessary to have them try their very best and achieve the best marks possible. My classes are exciting and I always make sure my students are engaged throughout the entire class. After greeting my students, I make sure to catch up with them to ensure we are on the same page. Afterwards, I first address any specific questions they may have, before moving forward. I am a firm believer that at this stage I should listen to my student's thoughts patiently, rather than being the only speaker in our interactions. I always end my lessons with constructive feedback to boost my student's confidence and mood, before assigning them some homework catered to their needs.

Perfect! Our son Jason had a challenging grade 10. We wanted a tutor who can spend time with him during the past summer to help him with his understanding and also give him practice questions to close any grade 10 knowledge gaps, and start preparing for grade 11.
