About Gareth
I am an experienced educator, school leader and SEND specialist with more than 15 years' experience working with students in secondary, sixth-form and specialist education.
Much of my career has focused on supporting students who find traditional approaches to learning difficult. I have particular experience working with students with SEND and SEMH needs, as well as students who need support with confidence, organisation, academic writing and study skills.
I hold postgraduate qualifications in Special Educational Needs and counselling and have worked as a teacher, SEND specialist, counsellor and senior school leader. I have also supported students with academic writing at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
My approach is patient, practical and straightforward. I believe students make the most progress when they understand what they are being asked to do and why, rather than simply being told that something is wrong.
I spent much of my career working in international education, so I also have extensive experience supporting students who use English as an additional language.
Most importantly, I want students to leave tutoring needing less help, not more. My aim is to build your confidence, develop your skills and help you become a more independent learner.

My lessons focus on helping you become a more confident and independent academic writer.
Rather than simply correcting an essay, I help you understand why something works, what needs improvement and how you can apply that learning to your next piece of work. We can work on essay structure, planning, argument development, critical thinking, academic style, clarity, grammar and referencing.
I specialise in supporting students with SEND and additional learning needs, including students who may struggle with organisation, processing written information or turning their ideas into a structured essay. Lessons are adapted to the way you learn, with clear explanations, manageable steps and practical examples.
I am an experienced school leader and SEND specialist with more than 15 years' experience in education. My qualifications include postgraduate study in Special Educational Needs and a Level 7 qualification in counselling, alongside extensive experience supporting secondary, sixth-form and university students.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes and are suitable for GCSE, A Level, undergraduate and postgraduate students. I can also support students for whom English is an additional language.
You can bring an assignment, essay question, draft or simply an area of academic writing you want to improve. The aim is not just to improve one essay, but to develop skills you can use independently throughout your studies.
