About Joy

I have obtained a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Chemistry and recently a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. I have done some in-person Chemistry teaching and tutoring while in school and have over 5 years of experience teaching and tutoring online.

About the lesson

My teaching methods are simplified in such a manner that students will find very easy to understand. In cases where necessary, I use practical examples. I ensure that students are not tired out during each lesson by using funny examples and/or real-life examples as the case may be.

Perfect! Joy is an exceptional teacher. She explains chemistry in a way that makes it really easy to understand. She adapted to my learning style as well as create a positive environment where learning chemistry is fun. This was very important to me since in the past I had a horrible experience with a chemistry teacher. Therefore her kindness and encouragement are very much appreciated by me. I 100% recommend her to anyone who is struggling in chemistry.

Find out more about Joy

When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?
I have always loved sciences right from my high school days and then my love for Chemistry was honed during my first year of University. Initially, it was difficult to take in all the concepts until I realized that helping others understand the concepts helped me to study better. That is how my love for tutoring Chemistry developed over the years. The more I helped others the better I became in Chemistry and the more I loved it.
What makes you passionate about your subject?
Chemistry is in our everyday activities and that keeps my passion for Chemistry alive. When I cook, wash or take a walk, e.t.c. It wows me the amount of Chemistry concepts I see as I go about my daily life and this make me so happy. I would usually use these as examples when I teach and it makes my students happy to see that they could relate Chemistry to their daily lives.
What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?
I love tutoring because I've been able to help as many students as possible overcome their Chemistry fears, boost their confidence and above all the excitement and happiness I see or witness when they pass their tests and exams is such a wonderful feeling.
Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.
Yes, I have a few who has inspired me over the years. One was my High school Maths. teacher, he was so passionate about his course and was very motivating and the second one was my Organic Chemistry Professor during my first degree in the University, she was a great woman and a great professor. She honed my love for organic chemistry. And the third one is my Ph.D. Supervisor who has been of great impact in my life. He encouraged, mentored and made sure I achieve my academic goals despite all the challenges that Ph.D. program presents.
What are your keys to success?
My key to success is having a positive attitude to life. I believe that you can do anything you dream of, you just have to believe in yourself and work for it. And it's ok to ask for help when things hard. Genuine help always gets us back on track when we deviate from our original plan.
