About Hamdy

Hi, I’m Hamdy. I am a PhD-qualified Mechanical Engineer and experienced university educator with more than twenty years of teaching and tutoring experience, including more than ten years teaching engineering students at the University of Sydney.

I specialise in university-level Mechanical Engineering subjects including Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Thermal Engineering, Heat Transfer, Combustion, Energy Systems and related engineering disciplines. I have taught undergraduate and postgraduate students from Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Aerospace, Mechatronics, Biomedical and Chemical Engineering backgrounds, and I have provided private tutoring to students from universities including the University of Sydney, UNSW, UTS, Western Sydney University and Macquarie University.

My strength as a tutor comes from combining strong technical knowledge with extensive teaching experience and the ability to explain difficult concepts clearly to students with different levels of preparation and confidence. I focus on helping students understand the physical principles behind equations and methods rather than simply memorising procedures.

Whether you are struggling with a particular topic, preparing for an assessment or examination, working through challenging problem sets, or aiming to strengthen your overall understanding of a subject, I tailor each session to your individual needs. I explain concepts clearly and work through problems step by step, while encouraging students to develop their own problem-solving skills and become more independent learners.

Over more than two decades, I have helped hundreds of students overcome subjects they initially found challenging, strengthen gaps in their knowledge and develop confidence in tackling difficult engineering problems. I genuinely enjoy teaching, and one of the most rewarding aspects of tutoring is seeing a concept that initially seemed confusing finally become clear to a student.

About the lesson

My lessons are tailored to each student's level, subject requirements and academic goals. I begin by identifying the topics or concepts that the student finds difficult and then build the lesson around those specific needs.

I focus on developing a clear understanding of the underlying principles rather than relying on memorisation. For engineering subjects such as Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer and related areas, I explain the physical concepts behind the equations before applying them to practical examples and problems.

During the lesson, we work through problems step by step, identify common mistakes and develop systematic problem-solving strategies. I encourage students to ask questions throughout the session and adapt the pace and level of explanation according to their understanding.

Lessons can be particularly useful for students who are preparing for assignments, quizzes, mid-semester tests, final examinations or other assessments. I can also help students strengthen gaps in their foundational knowledge or develop a deeper understanding of a subject beyond simply preparing for a particular assessment.

My goal is not simply to help a student solve the problem in front of them, but to help them understand why the solution works and develop the confidence and skills to tackle similar problems independently.
