About Jess

After 13 years of teaching I am still completely in love with the job and have developed a teaching style that prioritises relationships, positivity, and nurture.

The needs of the learners I work with are my top priority, and the question that underpins everything I do in school comes from my research into trauma-informed practice: "Am I safe here, and do you like me?". As educators I firmly believe it is our role to provide a safe, nurturing, and inspiring environment where children can learn to express themselves, develop strong curiosity, and celebrate the many types of progress they make on a daily basis.

I have taught in a variety of educational settings, including leadership and curriculum development, in both mainstream and alternative provision, making me the perfect choice for unlocking potential and accessing high-quality learning no matter what your starting point is.

I hold a BA(hons) in English Literature from Queen Mary University of London and a PGCE from Goldsmiths College, and in the past I managed a children's book shop, living my childhood dream(!)

Throughout my career I have worked with a variety of students, including those with autism, ADHD, trauma, and various additional learning needs. I specialise in English curriculum development, oracy, English language, and literature.

I offer both in-person and online tutoring for students from primary through to A level, and provide support with coursework, homework, GCSEs, A-level English, and 7+, 11+, 13+ entrance exams.

My lessons are engaging, creative, challenging, and pupil-focused. I will put the needs of your child and their goals at the centre of the learning process.

About the lesson

With over a decade's worth of experience teaching and leading within schools, my knowledge of the primary, SATS, and 11+ curriculum content is excellent.

I currently work as a Maths lead in a SEND school, planning schemes of work to make concepts understandable in a hands-on, practical way. Wherever you are in your learning journey, I will deliver tailor-made, student-focused lesson content that is designed to solidify existing concepts and gently push you forward by introducing new ones. Designed with just the right level of prior knowledge activation and new challenges, my lessons engender the curiosity and enthusiasm it takes to become not just academically successful, but a lifelong learner.

I work hard to establish trust, meaning that my students are able to take risks with their learning, tackling tricky new concepts and applying their knowledge to a range of problems and contexts. Using Bloom's Taxonomy of Learning to underpin my lesson planning, I will guide you to the next step on your learning journey.
