My students have been successful in making progress on and mastering skills in core subject areas for 22 years. I enjoy finding strategies that work with student strengths in order for them to learn new skills and overcome learning challenges.
Lessons will be targeted for reading, writing, and math skills at the elementary level as needs are specified by the student or parent. In my experience, there are many different ways to learn and practice all skills. I want my students to find confidence in their learning.
A typical lesson begins with a warm up, then moves to new learning. Depending on the skill, strategies will be taught and additional items needed (such as manipulatives, letter visuals, etc.) can be added. This is then followed by guided practice, then independent practice as needed. If a student needs help on a homework assignment, we will review background knowledge then move to strategy practice for the skill being evaluated.
