About Alex

Hi, I'm Alex, and for the past 4 years, I've had the privilege to tutors a plethora of students across all skill levels on how to maximize their potential of the ACT/SAT. Now, with the COVID-19 virus keeping many of us home, there is no better time to start the long process of preparing for these tests and taking on the entire college admissions process as a whole.

Does my child need a tutor for the ACT/SAT?
Yes. While it may be possible for your child to learn the material covered on the test on their own, the skill that is most important to get a high score on these tests is not reading, writing, math, or science but rather test-taking strategy. A tutor is crucial to learn how to master these tests and I'm proud to say my students rise an average of close to 4 points on their ACT.

When is the best time to start studying for the tests?
To get better at the tests, you have to practice, and that can be a very time-consuming process. It is never too early to start studying and allow yourself the time and breathing room you need to put the test your schedule rather than it forcing itself on yours. I recommend starting between the summer of sophomore year and summer of junior year. Junior and Senior year are the hardest years of school and between sports, school, and friends the tests often get left with little time.

How can you do tutoring with the Coronavirus?
Even before the Coronavirus, I have been doing tutoring completely online through video chat!

How much does it cost?
My standard rate for tutoring the ACT/SAT is $25 an hour. This is significantly cheaper than tutoring centers in the OC/LA/SF area which are normally a minimum of $70 an hour and use the same materials and often less experienced tutors! If money is the factor preventing you from getting a tutor for your child please reach out to me and I'll try to make something work.

About the lesson

I have a different approach to teaching the tests than many other tutors. Rather than teaching concepts, my approach is to focus on the test itself. Sessions will involve going over a practice test that the student has taken prior to the lesson (that I provide as homework). This allows the students to be comfortable not only with the material but also with the daunting process of taking the test itself. Just be learning simple strategies in test-taking that are specific to the ACT and SAT students can increase their scores dramatically. This process also makes sure that my time with the student is spent working on things they needed to improve on rather than wasting time teaching them things they already know!

My students enter test day prepared and confident that they can achieve their goals and beyond!
