About Uncle Bob
Robert believes that music is a universal language that transcends boundaries and connects people on a profound level. His teaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of expressing emotions through music and finding joy in the journey of learning. He encourages his students to explore various styles and techniques, fostering a sense of curiosity and creativity.
Robert has been playing classical guitar for over 50 years. In 2020, after a fulfilling career in software engineering, Robert retired to focus entirely on his first love – teaching classical guitar. He deeply desired to share his knowledge and inspire the next generation of musicians, so he began offering lessons from his home studio in Plattsmouth Nebraska. His approach to teaching is characterized by patience, encouragement, and a commitment to nurturing each student's unique musical voice.

Teaching Method and Techniques
Foundation Building: Start with the basics of posture, hand positioning, and finger techniques. Emphasize the importance of proper form to prevent injury and ensure efficient playing.
Reading Music: Teach students to read standard notation, focusing on rhythm, pitch, and dynamics. This includes understanding musical symbols and terms.
Technique Development: Incorporate exercises for finger independence, scales, arpeggios, and chord transitions. Use pieces that gradually increase in complexity to build technical skills.
Musicality and Expression: Encourage students to interpret pieces musically, focusing on phrasing, dynamics, and emotional expression. Discuss the historical and cultural context of the pieces.
Repertoire: Introduce a variety of pieces from different periods (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Contemporary) to expose students to a wide range of styles and techniques.
Performance Practice: Provide opportunities for students to perform in front of others, whether in recitals, group classes, or informal settings. This helps build confidence and stage presence.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Warm-Up (10 minutes): Begin with finger exercises, scales, and arpeggios to warm up the hands and focus the mind.
Technique (15 minutes): Work on specific technical exercises tailored to the student’s current needs and goals.
Repertoire (20 minutes): Practice pieces the student is working on, focusing on difficult passages, musical interpretation, and overall performance.
Music Theory (10 minutes): Integrate theory lessons that relate to the pieces being studied, such as chord structures, key signatures, and rhythmic patterns.
Sight-Reading (5 minutes): Practice reading new pieces to improve sight-reading skills and musical comprehension.
Review and Assignments (5 minutes): Summarize the lesson, provide feedback, and assign practice tasks for the next session.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor

Uncle Bob has a very inviting atmosphere. My two boys (11 and 13) look forward to lessons. Uncle Bob is very patient and has an exceptional method of teaching new beginners.
I had a lot of bad habits from trying to teach myself guitar from online videos. After starting lessons, I was not only helped with finding a better guitar. He also helped with fixing all my bad habits, learning how to read music, and exercises that now give me hope that I can play guitar. Thank you! I would recommend to anyone.
Uncle Bob is a top-tier guitarist & an even better instructor. My 6 year old daughter (5 when she started) & I have been taking lessons with Uncle Bob for over a year now. His patience & ability to teach my daughter never ceases to amaze me. His lifelong experience, enthusiasm, and love for the guitar make him the perfect person to take lessons from. 10/10!
