About Annesia
I hold with deep understanding world, community, and individual pain. We live in a society that is chronically disconnected from self, community, and the Earth. Mindfulness helps with this disconnect by helping individuals become less reactive to internal and external experiences. I began to meditate with a Buddhist community because I was interested in learning about Buddhist philosophy and practice. As I practiced meditation on my own, I didn’t understand that my experience was shared with other beginners. I was isolated but had intentions to practice, set up a daily schedule for meditation only to have that intention derailed by my thoughts. I suffered from social anxiety at an early age and addictions developed. Traditional meditation practice set off harmful, unsafe symptoms in me that required additional support. I found transformation in my life when I began to discuss my experiences with others in Buddhist communities, clinical psychology settings, and peer-support addiction groups.
I am also an environmental scientist that has experience working with people living in coastal and lake communities impacted by chemical pollution, nutrient pollution, and climate change such as sea level rise and increased frequency of extreme weather events. The trauma that these events can create by feeling hopelessness about future safety can reinforce a disconnect of the Self from community and nature. Connection to community is a key resource for people impacted by climate change and all humans for a strong sense of wellbeing. I decided to learn to teach mindfulness meditation because I believe everyone has the chance to live a joyful life. This starts with understanding ourselves and our surroundings by bringing awareness to the present moment.
After receiving certification in teaching mindfulness from Dharma Moon/Tibet House NYC I began a trauma sensitive certification program learning to modify mindfulness meditation practices for people that are experiencing distress such as mental health struggles and environmental climate change impacts. These practices are proven to help cultivate a sense of safety and connection to aid an individual to explore their inner world. I understand and have experienced the benefits in my personal practice in using these modifications. I have led meditation practice in addiction recovery peer groups and work with students that are currently in prison that face extraordinary daily obstacles to cultivating practice.

I love to work with people of all ages and backgrounds, from beginners to advanced practitioners. We can begin anywhere we find ourselves.
I offer 1:1 teaching and mentorship to help you develop mindfulness practice in your daily routine. I have a personalized and open approach to teaching and mentoring to help you work to incorporate practice into your life and to promote self-awareness. I take a curious stance by learning from my students to better understand what you need.
I also offer mindfulness courses in the following topic areas:
• Introduction to mindfulness meditation
• Trauma-sensitive mindfulness practice
• Mindful practice to understand climate change anxiety and increase Earth connections
• Introduction to Buddhist Studies/Philosophy (can be combined with meditation lessons)
In a beginning lesson I introduce mindfulness (what it is and what it is not), meditation practice (type and duration depending on your needs), followed by actual meditation together (10-20 mins), and a discussion of your experiences with guidance between lessons.
