About Jamie

Hi, my name is Jamie. I am a qualified Primary school teacher but I love to tutor as much as I love being in the classroom!

Tutoring is all about tailoring the lessons to specific learning needs. As a result I love to make my lessons fun and inspiring, that reflect the interests and requirements of the individual student. I provide a bespoke experience that is aimed at the student's strengths, collaboratively engaging with them to ensure progress (but in a fun way!). My major strength as a tutor is utilising a range of resources and approaches to ensure every lesson is exciting and productive.

Since graduating with a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing, I have continued to write and love to share my passion for writing creatively, as well as analysing a range of texts and styles. Exploring all aspects of literature really is a great passion of mine! Following my undergraduate degree, I completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) for primary education which means I can confidently cover a range of subjects up to secondary level. As part of my PGCE I undertook a research project into various teaching methods, so I am incredibly proficient at tailoring my teaching style to ensure I am delivering effective lessons for each of my students.

Away from education, I enjoy playing and coaching a range of sports, including football, cricket and cycling. I am a qualified cricket coach and I am currently one of the lead coaches for my regional Under-11s representative cricket team. In fact, it was working with these young cricketers that made me realise how much I enjoy passing my knowledge and skills on to others, particularly younger children.

Being outside is where I am happiest, and I love nothing more than marching up a mountain or across the countryside. Additionally, another passion of mine is music, whether it is playing my bass guitar or listening to range of bands and artists.

Teaching, whether that's in my class, down the cricket ground or tutoring one-to-one, is such a rewarding profession, particularly when you are as determined as I am to provide exciting and inspirational lessons that ensure the potential of every student is reached. It is a major objective of mine to instil a confidence and tenacity in my students to ensure a love for life-long learning.
