About Laurel

I have a B.A. degree from University of California, Berkeley in Linguistics. I have over 7 years of experience teaching at various institutes, on online platforms, and freelance. I have worked with groups and individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and levels. I have extensive training in leadership organization, improvisation techniques, teaching strategies, and workshop facilitation. All this experience and education has informed my unique methodology.

About the lesson

My lessons focus on four key areas: pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and confidence — the essentials for fluency.

I see language learning as more than memorizing rules; it needs to be enjoyable and personalized to your interests so that it will motivate you to dedicate the necessary time to it.

I create an experience that feels as close as possible to immersion, so you can start thinking and speaking in English naturally. I prioritize your comfort with me through conversational check-ins, dynamic activities such as games, debates, shadowing activities, and role-playing simulations. If you choose to have homework, I might send you home with a podcast episode, a video, or a creative project. Classes are personalized to prepare you for the specific use you are hoping to give it.

My classes are unique because they center the full human experience in your language process. I want you to be someone who feels empowered to make jokes, give presentations, express your feelings, engage in small talk, and be successful in an interview.

My classes are mostly geared towards intermediate to advanced students who already or hope to use English in the professional world. Many of my students have a high level of English but don’t feel comfortable using it and expressing themselves confidently. I help you expand your personality to discover your new self in English.

Thanks to my background in linguistics, I also bring a focus on pronunciation, phonetics, connected speech, intonation, rhythm, and breath patterns into English practice.

The idea is for classes to be something you can sustain happily and that clearly improves your life, rather than something that you dread weekly.
