About Stuart

I am based in London.

Originally, I am from near Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire, so Shakespeare is a special interest.

I studied English and European Literature at the University of Warwick, graduating with Honours.

I have been teaching GCSE students since 2024, having pivoted from a business career.

During my business career, I spent several years mentoring student interns via CEA CAPA.

My teaching style is flexible and focused on how best to help the student to pass their exams.

I discuss with the student and parents what they find most challenging. Then I put together a strategy that will get the best results.

For example, if a student finds writing structured essays difficult, then we practice this on a regular and ongoing basis.

The focus and theme of a lesson is decided on a weekly basis.

As much as is possible or desirable, lessons are consistent with what is being taught in class, so that the student is not distracted from or confused by any differences with what they are currently studying in school.

Homework tasks are sometimes provided – mostly listening to appropriate and relevant radio programmes or watching film clips.

I encourage students to read texts aloud, to hear – and not just see – words and how they sound and function.

I have much recent experience of tutoring students for AQA and Pearson Edexcel GCSEs, including the Edexcel International GCSEs.

I am professional, punctual, and well-organised.

I am DBS-checked.

About the lesson

My one-hour lessons are bespoke, based on each student's needs. When I teach literature, I encourage students to “read with their ears” and read the texts aloud to make the words come to life. So we might well be acting together in a Shakespeare play... Everything that we will do together is focused on helping you to pass your exam at the highest level possible.
