About Cathy
I passed my PGCE in 2007 and have done lots of supply teaching and 1:1 work. I have passed a CELTA course (grade B). I have recently managed a science club for ‘Mother Nature’. I have tutored several pupils in GCSE science. In addition I have worked as a volunteer reading helper for Beanstalks. I enjoy teaching and I understand the effort needed to learn a new language. I have worked in a Summer camp teaching English to students for five consecutive Summers. I have also worked voluntarily at a refugee centre, teaching English to a wide variety of students. In addition I have worked voluntarily in Spain as an English teacher to adults. Last academic year I taught English in Spain to students of all ages and levels. I have also tutored a student for an applied science BTEC. The student achieved a distinction. As an EFL Teacher on a non-residential course, Cathy’s duties were primarily teaching English as a Foreign Language to 14-17 year-olds from a range of nationalities for 15-21 hours a week. Cathy is very passionate about teaching and she is always striving to develop her skills. Cathy was observed and her lessons were found to be well-planned, student-centred and suitably challenging for the students. She demonstrated good language awareness and sound teaching techniques such as eliciting and error correction.
