I first met Amraj when he was an undergrad himself and was his tutor throughout his studies. I had the privilege of both studying and working on student committees with Amraj during my undergraduate degree. I have seen first hand, over many hours of work and in a variety of contexts, how high level and dynamic his thinking is. His knowledge in the fields of sociology and anthropology are difficult to match. However, having also tutored myself I know the range of skills involved, and that solely having a high intellect does not make an excellent tutor. My experience of Amraj has demonstrated to me that he possesses the unique overlap in skills and knowledge, needed to provide students with what’s necessary, to help them improve their performance and enjoyment of their work. Further to this he has the ability to apply his intellect to his work with students in a way that deduces their needs and strengths, to meet their optimum potential. He has shown an aptitude for working with a range of personality types, including with those holding challenging and resistant traits as much for those who hold high aspirations and drive to work. He also has knowledge surrounding neurodivergence and strategies that work for different neurotypes, which he personally helped me work through as an undergraduate, to get the most out of myself as possible. I saw these many skills and attributes especially as we worked together as committee members within our students union. Here Amraj always brought astute adaptability; ability to craft intelligent plans and execute them; ability to communicate diplomatically to ensure optimal outcomes; and compassionate patience for others whilst being able to hold people to account regarding deadlines, in appropriate ways.

For context, regarding myself, I hold a first class honours degree and special award in Social Anthropology from LSE and my most recent job was as the Director of Research, for an organisation working within health policy and social care.

I took tutoring lessons with Amraj to help me with multiple university essays during the pandemic and he helped make a large difference to my essays. He is relaxed but focused, works along your train of thought and easy to work with. He gave great insights into topics I was stumped with, helped me with research skills for essays and showed me how to write a higher quality paper.

My favourite attribute about Amraj was his sensitivity and understanding to my struggles that would act as an obstacle between sessions sometimes. This was mainly regarding mental health and he was very non judgmental and would help me get back into the flow of work and be motivated.
